The Boys' Brigade is an Access Organisation for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the 5th have taken advantage of this to offer the award to all members over the age of 14 (or 13.5 if we're being kind!) The Award is completely non competitive, voluntary and has three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold which you can start at the ages of 14, 15 and 16 respectively and keep going until you have finished and become a more skilled, fit and well rounded individual and a maximum age of 25.
Each award is split into 4 sections; Skills, Volunteering (previously called Community), Physical and Expedition (also a residential section at the Gold level).
The length of time you have to spend on each section depends on the level of programme you're doing. Why Bother?
You’ll enjoy loads of new experiences, discover talents you never thought
you had, challenge yourself and meet loads of people just like you.
Plus you’ll do things you love and get a kick out of.
Then there’s all the other stuff…
…like the fact that achieving an Award will give you skills, confidence
and a view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to
colleges and universities.
...you're getting recognised for doing things you want to do (and may even
be doing already).
...plus you’ll make a difference to other people’s lives and your
community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories to
last you a lifetime.
And above all, it's a great laugh!
